It is Wednesday and I am reflecting on last week, which was my first week of trying to slow down and become more mindful.
Eish.
The first thing that has become blatantly obvious: Change is hard.
There is no point in beating myself up about it though. A part of practicing mindfulness is acceptance. So my first step in the right direction of becoming more mindful is the fact that I accept that it is a journey.
Secondly, today is Wednesday. If you remember from last week’s post, I am supposed to start every week, so that’s every Monday, with a moment of mindfulness and setting the tone to my week by drawing one of my point-to-point dinosaurs. I did a lot of things on Monday, but drawing a dinosaur was not one of them.
In addition to that, my husband and I want to set aside some time for ourselves, one day a week, to spend a few hours together away from work and other distractions. I am supposed to find a new place a week for us to go to, to do exactly that.
Last week the two of us didn’t go anywhere.
This time of the year is busy and crazy and times are very unsettling. Not an easy base to work from but instead of this being an excuse, I want to look at it as lots of opportunities to practice mindfulness.
Last week offered lots of opportunity to practice.
As I’m writing this I am thinking back on how busy last week was, how it was my daughter’s valediction and matric dance and we got really busy at work. As I said. Not excuses. Just lots of opportunities. Hmmm…
Whatever I want to call it – I didn’t do what I set out to do.
I confessed to my husband yesterday that this past week I think I failed on every level. His answer: ”It’s not a test so you can’t fail.”
Well thank goodness. That’s at least something I can console myself with.
Dust yourself off and try again.
Jokes aside, the first step in trying to make a change is to create awareness, self-reflect, introspect and all that good stuff. This takes time and energy. It may be the most important step, the ground work, laying the foundation to what’s to come.
It’s a process.
So let’s get to it then. Here’s to another week and more opportunities.
And speaking of opportunities – despite everything I didn’t do, I did get to photograph with our recipe of the month – Fuji X Weekly’s #CrossProcess film simulation recipe.
