Excited about being excited – the X-T5 is here!

I’m not sure if there is such a thing as being excited about being excited… but if there is, then that’s what I am right now.

You may think “whaaaat is she talking about now???…”

I’m talking about yesterday’s announcement by Fujifilm of the new X-T5 and the fact that my beloved three-way tilt screen IS BACK!!! Yeah baby!

I was sold on the three-way tilt screen before Fujifilm knew this was the way to go… (lol).

No, but seriously, this screen was made for me. It completed me and had such a big influence on the way I shoot. So much so, that the absence of it in recent camera models made me hold onto my trusty X-T3 for dear life, not knowing what was or wasn’t going to come down the line.

I am an event, portrait and lifestyle photographer which is code for capturing images of what is rapidly unfolding in front of me from all sorts of angles. Thanks to the 3-way tilt screen, this was a challenge that I was able to squash easily when I switched systems and started shooting on the X-T2 for work in 2016.

Angles, angles, angles – the joys of using a three-way tilt screen!

In 2018 I upgraded to the X-T3 and it is still my go-to work horse. It is an amazing camera that has served me incredibly well, and without a doubt, will carry on doing so for a long time to come.

However, since its release four years ago, Fujifilm has made significant improvements to their sensor and processor technology and I was starting to feel like I was limping behind the latest features. But the flip-out screen of the X-T4 was not for me.

So today I am celebrating (and have already checked my bank balance) because I finally feel like Fujifilm and I are back on the same wavelength. The “Photography First” focus of the X-T5 fully resonates with me and my camera gear needs and I’m pretty sure that I am not alone in this.

In addition to the three-way tilt screen, it comes with a long list of new features and technological improvements, including all 19 film simulations available across the camera range. “Hello there SOOC”, the door opens even wider to in-camera jpegs!

I do not know yet when the X-T5 will become available in South Africa, let alone when I will be able to get my hands on mine. For now I have to be happy with being excited about being excited and the prospect of owning the latest in Fujifilm technology, including a three-way tilt screen.

Trust me, the day I hold it in my hands, you will hear me shouting from the rooftops.

Hi nathalie, I completely share your opinion about the screen. For the rest it’s a Fuji, so excellent! A very good camera that continues the XT lineage. I’m about to order it.
