Stop Hunger Now SA is an amazingly inspiring non-profit company run by a bunch of awesome, contagiously enthusiastic people with the mission to eradicate hunger in Southern Africa. I first met them at the beginning of last year when we started shooting for “Ubuntu Help-Portrait 4PBO” (read my blog post on my first experiences).
In a nutshell – through sponsored packaging events, food parcels are being financed for the less fortunate. A large part of their mission is to provide food parcels to schools that do not have enough funds to feed their scholars with the snowball effect that children from disadvantaged backgrounds attend school regularly ensuring a future for children who otherwise might get sidetracked by the constant and daily battle of sheer survival. An even greater snowball effect – so big I need to call it an avalanche is explained here.
After having experienced the incredibly devoted staff and a number of packaging events which brings together highly motivated volunteers, I recently got to accompany the Johannesburg team at one of their distribution trips into Alexandra where they deliver food parcels to beneficiaries. Basically I got to go full circle in experiencing the reaches Stop Hunger Now SA’s work really has.
We all know these images – even though they take us into a sad environment when we talk about development we often don’t realise the greater struggles that go on behind the scenes. I took this image on the way to one of the Pre-Schools we were visiting…

This images shows the front area of one of the Pre-Schools in Alexandra which receives monthly food parcel deliveries.

It goes without saying that at Stop Hunger Now SA they are crazy about children!!!

Stop Hunger Now SA food being prepared – with lots of love and even more smiles!

Before Stop Hunger Now SA took on this Pre-School there were no toilets on the premises… with the money the Pre-School managed to save, thanks to the support from Stop Hunger Now SA, they were able to build a bathroom for their children! How invaluable is that!!

And all the children get a highly nutritious and satisfying meal – every day!

Another Pre-School financed new school uniform!

Everywhere we went the kid where super excited to see the wonderful people from Stop Hunger Now SA turning the day into one big celebration of food, children and giving!

This Pre-School is busy expanding! The support of Stop Hunger Now SA helps to feed the children and look after them better AND helps to build more classrooms to make space for MORE children to get an education AND get fed daily!

Thus is the power of one bowl of food a day!
